The Who had Tommy.  Pink Floyd had The Wall.  Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” was sort of a small one.  And now, at long last, The Decemberists will have theirs.  Apparently, their new record, The Hazards of Love, is a fucking rock opera (how fitting).  It is a 16 song work with a legit narrative thread that centres around the despised love of Margaret and William.  In any event, it’s shaping up to be quite the epic affair, with guest spots from members of Lavender Diamond and My Brightest Diamond – both groups who have opened for the Decemberists on recent tours.

Speaking of epic affairs, the Portland crew is wrapping up their latest tour (with support from Loch Lomond) in our neck of the woods, so catch them during the Thanksgiving season if you care to:

11.24: Los Angeles, CA – The Wiltern
11.25: San Francisco, CA – Warfield Theatre
11.29: Portland, OR – Crystal Ballroom
11.30: Seattle, WA – The Moore Theatre
